It has been prevalent since the good old days of the 90s. America Online (AOL) was one of the top internet service providers during the mid-90s with millions of visitors every single day.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Attackers or \u2018Phreaks\u2019 (yes! That\u2019s what attackers used to call themselves. Once discovered, AOHell was shut down by America Online.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many cases that have been reported and even more that have not been reported. On average, 1.2 million phishing attacks occur annually. According to security research, <\/span><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/threatcop.com\/blog\/phishing-emails-double-due-to-black-friday\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #183994;\"><strong>phishing attacks almost doubled<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to 482.5 million from 246.2 million in the year 2017.
