With its huge customer base, it is expected to be a secure system, yet on the contrary, it&#8217;s not. Even after so many breaches, the service still contains many vulnerabilities and thus keeps on one of the favorite sites of a cyber attack. With one in every five businesses using cloud-based services, it is being increasingly used in Phishing campaigns.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Attackers have been continuously leveraging access to <span style=\"color: #183994;\"><a style=\"color: #183994;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-in\/microsoft-365\"><strong>Office 365<\/strong><\/a><\/span> accounts for deploying various cyber-attacks. One of the most widely used cyber attacks is<\/span> <span style=\"color: #183994;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #183994;\" href=\"https:\/\/threatcop.com\/blog\/phishing-and-pharming\/\">Phishing<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">. Broadly, three major cyber-attacks are being used:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Microsoft emails that ask you to update your password<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"792\" height=\"1172\" src=\"https:\/\/threatcop.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/ms-outlook-365-attack.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10713\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In this email, the attacker manipulates the victim into clicking on the malicious link within the email. This type of phishing attack is performed by convincing the employee to change the password by clicking on the link attached to the email.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Sender ID is suspicious:<\/strong> On a closer look, it can be noticed that the sender id is \u2018microsfrtfonline\u2019 which is not the actual sender id.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>You can see more than what is visible:<\/strong> If you hover over the link provided in the email, a different email id will be displayed, and you will be able to notice that the link re-directs you to a website that is not Microsoft\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Your IT support provider asks you to upgrade to the latest email outlook web apps<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/threatcop.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Phishing_email_example-for-blog-post.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10714\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The attackers manipulate victims to revalidate or upgrade to the latest email outlook web apps by sending an email with &#8220;RE: IT Help Desk&#8221; as its subject line automatically increasing the credibility of the phished email.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Grammatical errors leave you suspicious:<\/strong> In most phishing emails, attackers do not pay attention to grammatical errors. Spelling errors and typos are very commonly found in a phished email.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>The attack mimics an email return path for stealing victims\u2019 credentials<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In this type, probable victims receive an email notifying them that the email has not been delivered.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Sense of Urgency:<\/strong> Such emails are designed in a manner that the victim is compelled to take prompt action.
