This not only made them potential victims of <span style=\"color: #183994;\"><a style=\"color: #183994;\" href=\"https:\/\/threatcop.com\/blog\/email-spoofing\/\"><strong>email spoofing<\/strong><\/a><\/span> but also left their customers at risk of email scams and other cyber frauds. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The member airlines of IATA account for carrying around 82% of total air traffic. This analysis highlighted the majority of airlines that are risking their customer\u2019s information in the various regions across the globe.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">85% of the airline firms in China and North Asia lack a published DMARC policy.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Asia Pacific has 70% of airline organizations with no<a href=\"https:\/\/threatcop.com\/blog\/switching-dmarc-policy-to-reject\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #183994;\"> DMARC policy<\/span><\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This security failure is followed by Europe and the Middle East &amp; Africa at 57%, and the United States at 43%.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cybercriminals are already leveraging the current pandemic situation to launch more sophisticated cyber attacks. This is why cyber attackers find this industry as a gold mine to dig out such sensitive information by looking for exploitable vulnerabilities.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Here are the staggering statistics on the impact of cyber attacks and data breaches on airlines across the globe:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In May 2020, Easyjet confirmed that the email addresses and travel details of nearly <\/span><b>9 million global customers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were accessed in a sophisticated cyber attack. Out of them, the credit card and debit card details of <\/span><b>2,208 customers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were accessed.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cathay Pacific Airways in October 2019, revealed that the personal information of <\/span><b>9.4 million customers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was breached.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2019, British Airways suffered two data breaches. The data of <\/span><b>380,000 passengers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was compromised in the first breach and a month later, the data of <\/span><b>185,000 more <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customers was breached.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even back in 2018, data of British Airways <\/span><b>500,000 customers got<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> compromised including the bank card information of passengers.
