According to the investigative agency, threat actors are using this spear-phishing campaign to infect the victims with Remote Access Trojan (RAT) malware.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">A <strong>Bleeping Computer<\/strong> article mentions that according to the FBI, threat actors have also designed a phishing campaign. In that malicious campaign, they spoof this financial organization with registered domains, email subjects, and an application. Further, the FBI stated that the phishing email also contained a link for downloading the application, a username, and a password for access.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">The <span style=\"color: #183994;\"><a style=\"color: #183994;\" href=\"https:\/\/threatcop.com\/blog\/phishing-attacks\/\"><strong>phishing email<\/strong><\/a><\/span> appeared to have originated from a UK-based financial institution, stating that Truist&#8217;s loan to the victim was confirmed and it can be accessed through an application that appeared to belong to the Trusit.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The malicious actors hosted this fake Windows app on a fraudulent domain registered that impersonated Truist.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Some other financial institutions like MayBank, FNB America, and Cumberland Private also seem to have been impersonated by this spear-phishing campaign.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It has been found that the malware gets deployed after users download and install the executable file in the <span style=\"color: #183994;\"><a style=\"color: #183994;\" href=\"https:\/\/threatcop.com\/blog\/spear-phishing\/\"><strong>spear phishing<\/strong><\/a><\/span> emails that they receive. It then connects them to <b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">secureportal(.)online<\/b><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> domain.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">The FBI has informed through their warning that attackers are using this malware to log keystrokes and take screenshots of the users\u2019 screens.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"626\" height=\"543\" src=\"https:\/\/threatcop.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/fbi-ss-bleeping-comp.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10707\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Impersonated financial institutions [Source &#8211;
